Seriously (and this is my opinion), I believe that the Vikings will come to find out that Cousins is not the guy to take them to the promised land. For some reason the Vikings thought that a change of venue would change things around for a guy who went 24-23-1 and one playoff loss after winning the starting job in Washington. Not sure why and sometimes, well many times, football execs take gambles that don't pay off. I'm sure you've heard of Ryan Leaf. This is not a draft scenario though where they only had college play to evaluate. This is more like a Brock Osweiller that fleeced the Texans for $72 million. The Texans, however, while they did make a huge blunder, did cut bait pretty quickly after a single year. I see the Vikings sticking with Cousins for three before realizing, this isn't the guy. I'll grant that Cousins is a better QB than Brock but as one NFL exec put it, Kirk Cousins is not a finisher. I have to agree 100%. Obviously someone in the Vikings organization saw something else though I really don't believe they saw something else. I believe they wanted to see something else. They hoped that he would change Minnesota's fortunes. Look I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's just not going to happen. Cousins played on again, off again for 6 seasons in Washington. At the end of 2017 they felt that Alex Smith, also someone who could never get to a Super Bowl (Kaepernick did), was a better option than Cousins.
We all know, being an NFL quarterback requires an elite skillset. Not many folks grow up and become one but teams are paying many of these guys like they are elite and they're just not. Alex Smith is not going to bring home a championship for the Redskins, he's just better than many other options out there (Matt Schaub, Kellen Clemens, EJ Manuel and the list goes on). Likewise, Cousins is not going to bring home a championship to Minnesota, again he's just better than other options out there. If you really wanted a Super Bowl win. you should have taken that money and convinced Dree Brees to become a Viking.
